NATURALLY GROWN, NATURALLY GOOD |

SCHERF FARMS is located near Michigan City, Indiana in LaPorte County. The Dittmer Farm sat on this 100 acres for many years until the homestead and acreage were separated and sold off some 30 plus years ago. We were fortunate enough to have one the Dittmers still living next to the homestead. We were told many stories of the history of the farm. The Dittmer Farm was a typical example of sustainable farming, growing much of the food they needed and selling the remainder. SCHERF FARMS is a revival of sorts of the Dittmer Farm. After lying dormant for many years, the homestead and original farm acreage have been reunited. The pastures and fields are being restored to the natural lush pastures of years gone by. The farm is being repopulated with cows, chickens and pigs. New crops of hay and corn have once again come to the newly revived land. We believe raising animals on green pastures with plenty of room for excercise is the best way to keep animals healthy and happy. Raising animals on pasture does involve a little more work than confined feeding systems, but we feel the peace of mind and more importantly the end result is worth it. Excersise ensures high quality lean meat and plenty of room allows animals to grow with minimal stress which allows for good growth rates. SCHERF FARMS is family owned and operated by Pete and Rhonda Scherf along with their children Zachary, Ethan, Noah and Lu Xi. We look forward to providing you with the best possible farm fresh meats, produce and milk. |
